Now obsolete, RJ45S was an RJ standard for connecting a single data line, utilising a keyed 8P8C connector and a programming resistor, apparently used to correct signal levels.
RJ45 (without the S) colloquially refers to the un-keyed 8P8C Ethernet connectors covered by the TIA-568-D.2 standard. While widely accepted as “standard”, no IEEE or TIA standards use the RJ45 designation.
RJ45S pin assignments:
- Pin 1: Not used
- Pin 2: Not used
- Pin 3: Ring 2 (line 2)
- Pin 4: Tip 1 (line 1)
- Pin 5: Ring 1 (line 1)
- Pin 6: Tip 2 (line 2)
- Pin 7: reserved for shunt resistor
- Pin 8: reserved for shunt resistor
