Telecommunications Service Provider

Telecommunication service provider (TSPs) are companies, government agencies or state-controlled monopolies, that provide telephony and data communications as a service. At scale, they are public utilities which own and operate parts of the PSTN. In some jurisdictions they are legally defined as common carriers.

Originally TSPs provided telegraph services, installing and maintaining a network of communication cables, and expanded their services to include voice (telephony), facsimile (FAX), video (videotelephony), data and wireless (cellular) communications.
